Hotel California Effect

A term coined by DSM founder David Robinson, Hotel California refers to the popular Eagles song and the line, "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." The reference is to the fact that some public cloud providers may essentially hold data "hostage"—it may be free to migrate data into their cloud, but to retrieve it they may charge large sums of money or return it in an unusable format.
