Healthcare legislation first introduced and signed by President Clinton in 1996, HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It is a US law designed to provide privacy standards to protect patients' medical records and other health information used to healthcare providers, doctors, hospitals, and others. Healthcare organizations moving to the cloud often seek out a HIPAA-compliant provider.
